In keeping with the great tradition of English Cathedral Music there has been a choir at Durham for over six hundred years. This almost unbroken tradition of praising God in music continues to the present day. Evensong is sung in the Cathedral every day of the week except Monday, and there are three choral services each Sunday.

Music of Durham Cathedral.mp3 J.S. Bach from Durham

We welcome Daniel Cook as the new Master of Choristers and Organist at Durham Cathedral, following the retirement of James Lancelot. Daniel comes to us from Westminster Abbey, where he was Sub-Organist and Assistant Director of Music. No stranger to the North-East, Daniel was brought up in Hartlepool, was a pupil of Keith Wright, and was for a time a member of Durham Cathedral Consort of Singers.

DCCA is a registered charity (Charity number 1078233).

Our purpose is to support the provision of Sacred Choral Music provided by the organists, by Durham Cathedral Choir, and by Durham Cathedral Consort of Singers, at Durham Cathedral or elsewhere, thus helping to ensure that its tradition is maintained and developed as part of the Cathedral’s worship and heritage.

One of our main aims is to acquire enough funds 'to ensure that no child with the talent and desire to become a chorister should be turned away for lack of funding.' The proceeds from almost all our events therefore go towards our Chorister Bursary Fund.

DCCA made a good surplus for our funds on the market stall - Friday 1 / Saturday 2 / Sunday 3 December. At one point two robed Choristers were helping with sales and an explanation of DCCA’s work was given to very many people.
