We are delighted to announce that Keith Stewart, one of our Chorister parents, is riding from John O’Groats to Land’s End as part of the Deloitte Ride Across Britain event between 9th and 17th September. The Ride Across Britain is widely recognised as the UK’s premier long-distance cycling event. With over 700 cyclists taking part, riders will take in some of the country’s most breath-taking landscapes; starting from Land’s End in Cornwall to cycling over Dartmoor, Shap Fell in The Lake District, Penrith, Glencoe and the stunning scenery of the Scottish Highlands. More information can be found at  http://www.rideacrossbritain.com.

He is doing this in aid of both the DCCA Chorister Bursary Fund and Whizz-Kidz. As you will know our Bursary Fund has been set-up to enable the DCCA’s strategic goal that no talented youngster should be prevented from taking up a place in the Cathedral Choir for financial reasons. Whizz-Kidz gives disabled children the chance to lead a more independent life, meeting their individual mobility needs.

As this ride is in aid of two charities including the DCCA, to sponsor Keith please go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KeithJStewart. Alternatively you may send a cheque, made payable to Keith Stewart, to

 Durham Cathedral Choir Association

C/O Mr James Randle, Chair DCCA

 The Chorister School

 The College

 DH1 3EL

We will pass these donations onto Keith and he will be able to process them so that each charity receives its appropriate share.

Please find a poster with some additional information here.

Keith Stewart took part in the Ride Across Britain cycling event, from Land’s End to John O’Groats 9 - 17 September, and raised sponsorship funds equally for DCCA and Whizz-Kidz, children’s mobility charity.

It raised well over £1,700 for DCCA including Gift Aid, all of which will go to the Chorister Bursary Fund.

DCCA at Durham Christmas Market

Friday - Sunday, 2 - 4 December 2016 in Cathedral Cloisters

This year, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 2nd, 3rd and 4th , DCCA will once again have a stall in the local producers’ market in the cloisters. This has become a major fund-raising event for us, when we usually raise between £500 and £1,000. For those of you who haven’t encountered us there, we advertise our stall as selling food for the body (mostly, but not entirely, home-made jams, jellies and chutneys) and for the soul – CDs and DVDs featuring our Cathedral’s musicians. The exercise is valuable because it raises our profile and informs the huge crowds who come to buy or just pass by, that the Cathedral’s music cannot be taken for granted and that there are many who help support it by raising funds for it.

The food for the body is made by DCCA committee members and supporters. Other people make donations of different items for sale, and as long as the items are in new or ‘as new’ condition, we will sell anything appropriate. Do come along and support us.

We raised over £700 altogether through sales at the Cloisters Christmas Market and the Choristers School Christmas Fair. This income came from selling jams, pickles and chutneys; DCCA discs and books; and beautiful handmade Christmas decorations, made at the Chorister School.
